Headquartered in Pennsylvania, Vanguard established its first indexed mutual fund in the US in 1976 and now manages more than $3tn in assets as at December 2014. Known for its low-cost index funds in America, Vanguard entered the UK retail market in February 2009 with a focus on the advisory market.
Led in the UK by managing director Tom Rampulla, Vanguard initially introduced a range of index tracker funds. It built its early investor base with a small group of fee-based advisers and by making in-roads in the pensions market, particularly in the DC sector.
Vanguard has over 20 million investors and employs more than 14,000 people across the globe, with offices in the USA, the UK, Australia, Japan, Canada, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Singapore and Hong Kong.
