Founded in 2000, Unicorn Asset Management is an independent boutique investment management company focusing on small and mid-cap equities. It offers both open and closed-ended investment funds, including an AIM Venture Capital Trust. Historically, fund performance has been strong; four of the firm’s five funds are top quartile over three years.
Unicorn has seen an increase in fund flows thanks to a change in its distribution strategy. Since October 2012, the firm has partnered with independent distributor LGBR Capital. In April 2013, it moved its full range of funds to the Cofunds platform in a bid to increase their accessibility. . Its flagship fund, the UK Income fund, has grown in size from less than £50m in September 2012 to around £700m in May 2014. Although the majority of the flows have been into the Income fund, the firm is also seeing increasing interest in the Mastertrust, run by Peter Walls as a fund of investment trusts.
