Launched in 1998, Standard Life Investments (SLI) is the fund management arm of the Standard Life Group. Its investment capabilities span across equities, bonds, real estate, private equity, multi-asset solutions, fund of funds and absolute return strategies.
Total assets under management stand at £104.8bn (as at 31 March 2014), up from the £104.8bn reported at the start of the year. The firm’s multi-asset business, home to the flagship Global Absolute Return Strategy (GARS) fund, saw £1.3bn of net inflows during the first quarter of 2014.
Euan Munro, who established and developed the GARS fund, left the firm in July 2013. Guy Stern, who has been leading the group’s day-to-day management of its multi-asset investments since 2008, takes over as SLI head of multi-asset and macro investing.
SLI expects to complete the acquisition of Ignis Asset Management at the end of June 2014. The firm announced it had purchased the asset manager in March from the Phoenix Group for £390m. As part of the deal, SLI will manage Phoenix life company subsidiaries’ current and future assets. Standard Life confirms Ignis will merge with SLI, boosting the division’s organic growth and increasing its investment capacity.
