Rowan Dartington Signature poaches new managing director from Brewin

Brewin Dolphin’s John Cowmeadow has joined discretionary management business Rowan Dartington Signature as the firm’s new managing director.

Cowmeadow has replaced Guy Stephens, who will become technical investment director in the parent company.

Cowmeadow will be responsible for developing a national distribution network for Rowan Dartington Signature.

Executive chairman Graham Coxell says the appointment demonstrates that distribution would not be sidelined following St James’s Place’s acquisition of Rowan Dartington last year in a £34m deal.

Coxell says: “We’re telling the market we’re absolutely committed to run money for IFAs.”

Coxell says there will be more new appointments to the business. Rowan Dartington Signature is looking to recruit business development managers and investment managers with experience running money on behalf of IFAs.

He says: “Given the time of year John has joined we’re looking through what those plans look like and can start that process this year so that you’ll start to see those appointments coming through next year.”

Cowmeadow, who joined this month, was most recently responsible for running the entire intermediary distribution arm at Brewin Dolphin, where he had worked for 14 years.

Stephens, whose responsibilities fall across the group, will also be responsible for developing Rowan Dartington International in his new remit, which involves expanding the firm’s DFM service in English-speaking markets abroad and supporting St James Place’s presence in Asia.
