Miton hires second manager for European fund launch

Business-Handshake-General-Hire-Appointment-700x450.jpgMiton has hired a fund manager to work alongside newly-appointed Carlos Moreno as the asset manager prepares to launch a new European equity fund.

Thomas Brown is joining former Thames River Capital colleague and ex-JO Hambro fund manager Moreno at Miton as European equities fund manager.

At Thames River Capital Brown was analyst and assistant fund manager on the Pan-European equities team.

Most recently, Brown worked at Mitsubishi UFJ Asset Management in the UK where he co-managed the European Value & Momentum fund from April 2014 to November 2015.

Miton executive chairman Ian Dighé says: “Thomas is a valuable addition to Miton, bringing additional expertise and experience alongside Carlos as we look to launch a European equity fund within our existing range of UK and US equity funds”.

The new fund is planned to be launched at the end of 2015.

Miton has already launched a new micro cap investment trust this year, investing in firms with less than £150m in market cap, run by Gervais Williams and Martin Turner.

The firm battled with outflows last year, seeing £1bn pour out of its funds after Bill Mott retired from the Psigma business. In addition, £438m of assets were lost in the sale of its Liverpool business. At 31 December 2014 the firm held £2.05bn, down £1.05bn on a year earlier.
