Jones has been at M&G for 17 years, and was previously at Prudential where he started his career in corporate governance 44 years ago.

M&G Investments chief executive Michael McLintock says: “Huw has made a quite exceptional contribution during his 44 years. It’s hard to imagine M&G without Huw.

“Throughout the years I have relied heavily on his common sense and judgment, which has always proved unerringly sound. His knowledge of British boardrooms is unparalleled and he is held in the deepest respect across the City. He goes with all our best wishes.

Jones will be replaced in March by Rupert Krefting, who will join the asset manager from Numis Securities, where he is a director in its corporate broking and advisory business.

Before Numis, Krefting also held senior roles at Investec and Panmure Gordon.

McLintock says: “[Krefting] is well-placed to continue representing the interests of M&G and its investors on issues of corporate governance and stewardship.”
