Man Group has appointed former monetary policy committee member and Government economist Dame Katherine Barker a non-executive director of the company.
Barker is a non-executive member of the Office for Budget Responsibility and between 2001 and 2010 served on the Bank of England’s MPC. She led two major policy reviews on housing and planning while she was at the central bank.
Chairman Ian Livingston says: “She brings strategic thinking and economic insight, coupled with strong knowledge of the financial markets.”
At Man Group she will be part of the remuneration committee.
Barker has also served as an adviser to Credit Suisse and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
As well as her new appointment, Barker is a director at Yorkshire Building Society and Taylor Wimpey. She is also chairman of the trustees of the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme.
Barker was awarded a DBE in 2014 for services to the British economy and a CBE in 2005 for services to social housing.
