Swiss Banking Group SYZ & CO has hired former Franklin Templeton duo Michael Clements and Claire Manson to run its European equity funds.
Both Clements and Manson left Franklin Templeton at the start of August this year. Clements ran the £26.8m Franklin European Opportunities Oeic and the offshore £2.47bn European Growth fund. Manson also worked as a team member on Clement’s European Opportunities fund.
In his new role at SYZ Clements will work as head of European equities based out of London and will manage the Oyster European Opportunities, Oyster European Selection and Oyster Continental Selection funds.
Manson will also run the Oyster European Mid & Small Cap fund at SYZ.
Clement’s appointment comes as current head of European equities at SYZ, Eric Bendahan, prepares to leave the firm to pursue a career as an entrepreneur.
A spokesman for SYZ points out that Clements and Bendahan share a similar investment style. He says: “After nine years with Syz, Eric Bendahan’s departure is normal and SYZ understands his desire to set up his own structure as an entrepreneur and is deeply thankful his collaboration with the firm.
“Michael Clements and Eric Bendahan have a very similar management style and full continuity is ensured throughout the transition. For investors it is therefore very positive news.”
