Sarasin & Partners hires Ignis’ Julio for global equities team

Sarasin & Partners has appointed Ignis’ Mark Julio as fund manager for the firm’s global thematic equity team.

Julio was previously a portfolio manager focusing on global emerging market equities at Ignis Asset Management. Ignis was acquired by Standard Life Investments earlier this year.

Prior to this Julio also worked for Baring Asset Management where he was lead manager of the Baring Emerging Market Opportunities fund.

Julio’s new role at Sarasin will include providing support to Harry Talbot Rice in managing the £122.2m Sarasin EquiSar Global Thematic fund as well as finding emerging market investment ideas as part of the broader investment team at Sarasin.

Mark Whitehead is also set to continue on as deputy manager of the Sarasin Equisar Global Thematic fund following Julio’s appointment.

Sarasin chief executive officer and managing partner Guy Monson says: “Mark’s experience in analysing and managing emerging market assets will prove invaluable as we continue to strengthen our global thematic investment team and our EM coverage.

“His experience will also help in harnessing growing dividend flows from the emerging world which are increasingly important for the equity income mandates of our Charities and private investors.”
