FTSE 100 OPEN: Strong early gains from UK banks

Royal Bank of Scotland was the largest riser in early trading this morning as UK banks delivered a strong opening performance.

Shares in RBS were up 4% at the open, taking them to 28.86p. Barclays and Lloyds Group both followed, up 1.58% and 1.29%, respectively.

Steel and mining business Evraz and natural resources company Eurasian were both up by 1.28%, taking the share price to 395.00p and 634.00p, respectively.

Investment firm Resolution was the biggest faller, down 5.46% to 259.90p a share. Wolseley followed, falling 2.06% to 2,467.00p a share.

Shares in food service providers Compass group dropped by 1.42% to 658.50p a share while energy provider International Power and Rolls Royce were down by 0.63% and 0.60%, respectively.
