FTSE 100 OPEN: Mixed morning for energy companies

Two energy companies were the biggest faller and strongest climber in early trading, with Tullow Oil and Essar Energy reporting mixed fortunes.

Essar Energy was the biggest riser at the start of the week as share price increased by 2.2% to 127.7p (at 0806 GMT).

Essar was joined at the top by BT, up 1.5% to 218.9p and miner Antofagasta, which rose 1% to 1,241p.

Life insurance consolidator Resolution increased by 0.9% to 281.3p, as financial services group Old Mutual rose 0.6%to 164.1p.

Tullow Oil, meanwhile, was the biggest faller, dropping 1.5% to 1,505p (at 0808 GMT).

Three companies shed 1.2% from share prices early on, including building materials company CRH, engineer GKN and miner Kazakhmys, down to 1,392p, 214.6p and 949p, respectively.

Intercontinental Hotels Group slipped 1.1% lower to 1,461p.
