FTSE 100 OPEN: Hargreaves Lansdown rises to top

Hargreaves Lansdown was the biggest riser in early trading (at 0830 GMT) as its share price increased by 2.3% to 488.9p.

Royal Bank of Scotland Group saw its share price rise by 2.2% to 27.06p, while Tullow Oil climbed 1.5% higher to 1,493p.

Biopharmaceutical company Shire rose by 1.4% to 2,188p, as insurer Aviva increased by 1.3% to 379.6p.

Engineer GKN was the biggest faller dropping 1.6% to 216.2p, as Cairn Energy slipped 1% to 328.2p.

Precious metals group Polymetal International dropped 0.9% to 986p, food products company Tate & Lyle fell 0.7% to 710p, and asset manager Schroders saw its non-voting share slide 0.5% to 1,287p.
