Microchip manufacturer Arm Holdings saw its share price increase after reports of an upgrade by Morgan Stanley.
The tech company climbed 3.6% higher (at 0826 GMT), up to 569p. The firm has a long-established relationship with Apple, which yesterday announced details of the iPad 3.
Vedanta Resources moved 2.8% higher to 1,382p, supermarket chain Morrisons increased by 2.7% to 292.6p.
Insurer Aviva rose 2.5% higher to 359.8p after announcing its full-year results, while copper miner Kazakhmys added 2.3% to its share price early on, up to 963.5p.
The biggest faller was British Airways owner International Consolidated Airlines Group, down 0.7% to 162p.
It was joined by Man Group, which slipped 0.5% to 145.4p.
Vodafone, International Power and United Utilities all slipped by 0.4% to 169.25p, 357.9 and 613p, respectively.
