Polar Capital has hired two investment professionals to strengthen its healthcare team as the firm looks to grow the healthcare investment products it offers.

Former Axa Framlington fund manager Deane Donnigan and International Biotechnology trust manager David Pinniger are set to join Polar at a later date.

Polar has two healthcare portfolios – the £478.4m Polar Capital Healthcare Opportunities fund and the £152.6m Polar Capital Global Healthcare Growth and Income trust.

Donnigan trained as a clinical pharmacist and joined Framlington’s healthcare unit trust arm in 1997. She eventually became manager of the Axa Framlington Healthcare and Biotechnology funds before leaving the firm in 2011.

Pinniger has more than 12 years’ investment experience in the healthcare sector and has managed SV Life Sciences’ International Biotechnology trust for the past five years. He has also worked at venture capital firm Abingworth and Morgan Stanley as an analyst.

Polar healthcare fund manager Daniel Mahony says: “The healthcare sector remains one of the most exciting markets from an investment perspective and we are pleased to grow the team as we look to expand the healthcare franchise.

“We can now offer our clients a broader range of specialist products that target the significant opportunities we see in the healthcare sector.”
