Only 5 per cent of retail funds are managed or co-managed by female fund managers, according to research by Bestinvest.
Within the five largest Investment Management Association sectors, the percentage of funds run by women ranged by 2 per cent in the UK Equity Income sector to 7 per cent in UK All Companies.
It was also estimated that only 6 per cent of funds in the Global sector are run by women, with 5 per cent for both the Corporate Bond and Mixed Investment 40%-80% sectors.
Bestinvest business development and communications managing director Jason Hollands says: “What is clearly important for the long-term health of the industry is that it attracts people from the widest pool of talent and potential.
“The fact that there are already some great role models should be a source of encouragement for women considering fund management as a career.”
