First State to open Dubai office in EMEA push

First State Investments has reshuffled its distribution team as the firm plans to open a Dubai office as part of a push for Europe Middle East Africa business growth.

Chris Gower, formerly of HSBC Global Asset Management, takes a newly-minted role as EMEA consultant relationships head at First State.

Alex Mackenzie Smith has been brought on to the full time team after a stint as consultant to the firm. His business development director position is also a new one, with his job to gain new business in Europe.

Andrew Ward has been given a new job as distribution manager, coordinating client engagement across the wholesale and institutional markets, after more than a year at First State.

First State will open the Dubai office this year, with Ali Karmali moving to the to the Middle East from London to become the firm’s head of Middle East and Africa.
