UK unemployment falls to 2.49 million

The number of people out of work fell by 37,000 to 2.49 million in the three months to November, compared with the previous three month period, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.

The UK unemployment total has now fallen to its lowest level for 18 months.

The unemployment rate for September to November 2012 was 7.7 per cent of the economically active population, down 0.1 from June to August 2012.

The employment rate for those aged from 16 to 64 for September to November 2012 was 71.4 per cent, up 0.1 from June to August 2012. There were 29.68 million people in employment aged 16 and over, up 90,000 from June to August 2012.
