RWC to open Nissay Japan fund to wholesale market

RWC is to launch a Ucits version of an institutional Japanese fund it has run in association with Japan-based Nissay Asset Management since 2005.

The new RWC Nissay Japan Focus fund, a Luxembourg-domiciled Ucits, will closely replicate the existing Japanese Stewardship fund, which was initially launched as joint venture with Hermes in 2005.

RWC acquired the Japan team from Hermes in October 2012 and is now looking to open the Nissay strategy to the wholesale market.

RWC chief executive Dan Mannix says: “RWC’s team have had a nine-year joint venture with NAM, one that allows us to bring a Ucits version of the strategy to investors who have not previously been able to access it.

“Investors have a real appetite for something a bit different in their Japanese allocations and it is supported by excellent performance.”

Since inception in March 2005 to 28 November 2014 the JSF fund has returned 79 per cent, versus the Topix which is up some 41 per cent according to Bloomberg. Year-to-date the JSF is up 28 per cent versus 10 per cent for the index.
