Oriel Asset Management has hired equities researcher Jamie Ward to bolster analysis for the £52m IWI Oriel UK fund.
Ward joins from hedge fund manager Wolos Capital where he was an equity analyst. At Oriel he will research and analyse investments for the Oriel UK fund, run by Patrick Barton.
Ward has worked with Barton before, while at Investec Asset Management.
The fund, launched in March 2011, aims to “materially exceed” FTSE returns and maintain its capital value.
Its 10 per cent volatility is first quartile in the IMA UK All Companies sector, while it is second quartile over one and three years to 9 December, according it FE Analytics.
Oriel chief executive Simon Bragg says the firm has had heightened interest in its three strategies and the extra researcher responds to that growth.
“Jamie’s tried and tested investment insight and analysis will be an invaluable additional resource at Oriel Asset Management and will complement the process currently implemented by the team,” he adds.
