The FTSE 100 index rose early on this morning in what will be a short session for traders ahead of the Christmas break.
The biggest risers on the blue chip index this morning were commercial broadcaster ITV and utilities company National Grid, which both rose by 2% to 65.75p and 615p, respectively (at 0814 GMT).
Oil giant BP rose 1.9% to 458.95p, insurer Admiral Group was up 1.4% to 831p, and publisher Reed Elsevier increased by 1.3% to 510p.
There were few significant fallers in early trading (at 0815 GMT) with banks HSBC and Standard Chartered dropping by 0.1% to 487.95p and 1,388p, respectively.
British Airways parent International Consolidated Airlines Group also dropped 0.1% to 149.8p.
