The FTSE 100 rises in early trading as European Union leaders prepare to meet in Brussels to thrash out a deal to save the euro.
The biggest risers were Cairn Energy and miner Kazakhmys, both rising 2.6% 284.9p and 965p, respectively (at 0804 GMT).
Copper miner Antofagasta was up 2.3% to 1,258p and asset manager Ashmore rose 2% to 351.7p.
Engineer IMI was the biggest faller, dropping 0.9% to 764.5p. Global satellite communications company Inmarsat and engineer GKN both dropped 0.7% to 420p and 188.6p, respectively (at 0805 GMT).
Supermarket Tesco slipped 0.5% to 395p as Asia-focused bank Standard Chartered dropped 0.3% to 1,450p.
