Morning markets: Bank fears evident in early trading

British banks the biggest fallers in early trading as concerns over the eurozone continue.

The heaviest faller was Costa Coffee owner Whitbread, which saw share price drop by 4.5% to 1,505p at 0811 GMT. Other early fallers included banks Barclays, down 2.6% to 176.75p, Royal Bank of Scotland Group, also dropping 2.6% to 20.03p, and Lloyds Banking Group, falling 2.5% to 23.8p.

Also at the bottom was Intercontinental Hotels Group, slipping 1% to 1,093p.

The biggest riser in early trading was miner Lonmin, which climbed 1.4% higher to 988.5p at 0801 GMT. It was joined at the top by property investment company Land Securities, which rose by 1.2% to 636.5p, and insurer Aviva, up 1% to 303.9p.

Gold miner Randgold Resources rose 0.9% to 6,715p, while Kazakhmys increased by 0.8% to 887p.
