Charles Stanley Direct’s Ben Yearsley: Neptune European Opportunities

“Funnily enough I saw Rob Burnett last week, manager of the Neptune European Opportunities fund, who is extremely bullish on the prospects for Europe. He makes two key points about why he is so bullish: firstly he thinks the financial crisis over and secondly he thinks the European economy is set to surge. Because in his view the crisis is over, you now need to own the banks and insurance companies and want to avoid some of the ‘quality’ names found in many other portfolios. In recent past there has been a bubble in quality and he thinks the valuation gaps are now too wide. As well as banks, other cyclical areas like autos and industrials feature in his portfolio. Although this fund had a poor year last year, if Mr Burnett is correct, this fund could be ideally positioned for a recovery.”
