Jupiter promotes Zimmerman to manager of UK small cap fund

Jupiter has promoted assistant fund manager James Zimmerman to manager of the £60m Jupiter UK Smaller Companies fund.

He will replace Richard Curling, who has managed the fund since March 2006.

Curling will continue to manage the Jupiter Fund of Investment Trusts and institutional assets as well as co-managing the Jupiter Primadona Growth Trust and the Jupiter Monthly Income fund.

Zimmerman joined Jupiter in 2011 as an analyst in the UK equities team, and returned to Jupiter in October last year, having spent a year as a global generalist analyst at Rockefeller & Co in New York.

The Jupiter UK Smaller Companies fund has returned 324.96 per cent since launch in 1999, compared to 201.48 per cent for the FTSE Small Cap Ex Inv Trusts index, according to FE.

Jupiter head of investments Stephen Pearson says: “Following the appointment of Steve Davies as sole manager of the Jupiter UK Growth fund earlier this year, James’s promotion is a further illustration of our strategy to nurture internal talent by developing fund managers from within our existing investment team.

“James has worked closely with Richard on the Jupiter UK Smaller Companies portfolio since his return, and we see his new appointment as a natural step which recognises his talent for investment, and allows Richard to focus on the other portfolios under his management.”

Later in the year, former manager of the £4.4bn Newton Asian Income fund, Jason Pidcock will join Jupiter to manage the new Asian Income strategy.
