Collins Stewart focuses on value in British firms

Collins Stewart Fund Management has announced the launch of the Collins Stewart UK Focus Fund, managed by David Shapiro.

The fund aims to outperform the FTSE All-Share index by investing in good-quality companies that trade at a discount of 40-50% of their intrinsic value. The holding period for the companies will typically be three to five years, to allow them to reach their projected value. “In general terms the fund can invest anywhere in the UK investment market, which I have a lot of experience working in,” says Shapiro.

“I think the fund will consist of around 30 equally-weighted stocks that are spread across all sectors aimed at the value end of the spectrum.”

Shapiro joined Collins Stewart last August from Morley Fund Management, where he managed £4.5 billion as head of UK Value. He has previously worked at UBS Asset Management, Montanaro, the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and Manulife.
