GAM is a global independent asset management group offering a range of traditional and absolute return strategies to institutions, wholesale intermediaries, financial advisers and private investors.
Headquartered in Zurich, the firm has over 1,000 employees, including around 150 investment professionals, in 11 countries and investment centres in London, Zurich, Hong Kong, New York, Lugano and Milan. Their investment management business is complemented by a private labelling unit, which provides fund administration and other support services to third-party institutions.
As of 31 December 2014, GAM had CHF 123.2bn of assets under management – CHF 76.1bn in their investment management business and CHF 47.1bn in private labelling.
GAM was founded in 1983 by Gilbert de Botton and was owned by UBS AG from 1999 until December 2005 when it was acquired by Julius Baer. Following the split of Julius Baer’s private banking and asset management business in September 2009, it now operates as a subsidiary of the GAM Holding AG, an independent entity listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange.
