FTSE 100 erases gains during Autumn Statement

Stockmarket-Stock-Market-FTSE-Performance-700x450London’s blue-chip index lost this morning’s gains as Chancellor Philip Hammond closed his first Autumn Statement.

The FTSE 100 was at 6,818.1, down 1.62 per cent at 1.18pm.

The markets began the day in positive territory ahead of the Autumn Statement, with the FTSE 100 up 0.8 per cent to 6,871.8 at 8.25am, buoyed by the Dow Jones reaching an all-time high having closed above 19,000. However by 12.30pm as Hammond was due to begin the Autumn Statement gains in the FTSE 100 had dropped back, with the index at 6,841.27.
