Former Ignis CIO joins Maunlife as liquid alts head

Business-General-Handshake-Hire-Appointment-700x450.jpgFormer Ignis Asset Management CIO Chris Fellingham has joined Manulife Asset Management as head of its liquid alternatives division.

Fellingham was CIO at Ignis before it was acquired by Standard Life Investments. He left SLI in August last year, having overseen the integration of Ignis into Standard Life Investments.

He has joined Manulife as senior managing director and head of liquid alternative strategies, effective from June 13. He will report to Chris Conkey, global CIO at Manulife, and will be based in London.

Manulife says the appointment will help its expansion into liquid alternatives, including its absolute return and outcome-focused funds.

Among the asset manager’s existing offerings are the Absolute Return Currency,
Absolute Return Opportunities, Asia Bond Absolute Return and Diversified Alpha funds.

Kai Sotorp, president and chief executive at Manulife Asset Management, says: “We are seeing increasing client demand for strategies that can provide outcomes specific to their needs, with a critical focus on risk management.”

Fellingham was previously chief executive at Soros Fund Management UK, and has worked at Mercury Asset Management, Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and BlackRock.
