BlackRock is launching an unconstrained sterling bond fund to be co-managed by Ben Edwards and Simon Blundell.

The BlackRock Sterling Strategic Bond fund will have its core holdings in sterling-denominated corporate bonds, but will also be able to invest in global markets, including emerging markets.

The total return bond fund seeks attractive levels of income through opportunistic and conviction-driven investing, and will not be constrained to any specific benchmark.

Edwards admits investors “are not suffering from a lack of choice in this sector”, but hopes they will be drawn to the track record of BlackRock’s Corporate Bond Fund.

Jeremy Roberts, head of UK retail sales at BlackRock, says: “As financial markets become increasingly diverse and complex, the hunt for yield gets even harder. In a low-return, low-rate world, income is golden.”

BlackRock’s global fixed income business manages $1.53trn.
