Investor demand has prompted BlackRock to launch an environmentally responsible bond fund to be managed by Ashley Schulten and Darren Wills.

The Green Bond Index fund will track the Bloomberg Barclays MSCI Global Green Bond Index and will focus on fixed income securities that fund projects with direct environmental benefits.

Co-manager Schulten says investors are seeking “climate friendly” investments that don’t require major changes to sector allocation or liquidity risk in their holdings.

She adds: “Clients interested vary from large institutional clients to family offices and retail investors.”

BlackRock launched an impact investing division in February 2015 to cater to investors with social or environmental objectives.
